Behind the module

About me

I'm a longtime distributed systems engineer who went solo to build useful products--and learn what applied AI looks like beyond the demo.

The backstory

Booster Module is the handle I use to write about the transition from big-tech infrastructure work to building products as the solo technical person. I've been programming for thirty years (I'm actually not that old, I just started very young) and spent much of my career working on foundational systems at scale, eventually reaching Staff Engineer.

That work crossed distributed systems, security, privacy, automated repair, shard management, payments, and the perpetual work of reducing cost and latency. Going solo gives me a chance to bring those lessons into the whole product: from architecture and operations to user experience and the business around it.

What I'm building

My current product is Writer Woes, a SaaS for fiction writers that uses AI workflows where they genuinely help. The practical lessons from building and optimizing those workflows are a big part of what I share here.

What I'm exploring

I'm interested in deploying LLMs and other AI models at scale while reducing cost, latency, and environmental impact—and in carrying useful engineering discipline into a solo startup without importing big-company bureaucracy.

A note about AI

Yes, this site was vibe coded. I also use AI to outline posts and trim them down, because I tend to write verbosely. The goal is to be candid about the tools while staying thoughtful about what they produce and what they cost.
